Things to Do in Ilfracombe

Why come to Ilfracombe?

Ilfracombe is ideal for sightseeing, sea cruises, walking, hiking, cycling and many other fun activities. Additionally it offers those that want to unwind the chance to enjoy some of Devon's most beautiful & spectacular scenery.

Activities

Ilfracombe and surrounding areas provides wonderful scenery and many attractions, we have listed the most popular:

Beaches

  • Woolacombe - Two miles of golden sand and fantastic waves. Ideal for sunbathers, surfers and swimmers or anyone who wants to walk by the sea.
  • Ilfracombe Tunnels beaches with its Victorian bathing pools and Blue Café. A great place for adults and children alike.

Surfers

Surfers have the choice of either Woolacombe or Croyde, both considered to be among the best surfing beaches in the South West.

Walks

The South West Coast Path provides you with many short walks, below are some of the most popular with our guests.

  • A beautiful view of the harbour and town can be found by taking the 20 minute walk up to the top of Hillsborough (the sleeping elephant)
  • We highly recommend the one and a half hour walk to Lee. If you are feeling more adventurous why not carry on to Mortehoe and on to Woolacombe.

Exmoor

Exmoor National Park is a ten mile drive from Ilfracombe and is renowned for it's stunning landscapes, wilderness and tranquillity

Biking

The Tarka Trail is right on our doorstep. You can follow the old railway track to Barnstaple taking in Woolacombe, Braunton and Croyde on your way

Golf

Ilfracombe has it's own 18 hole golf course with spectacular views across the channel to Lundy Island and South Wales.

Sea Cruises

Several pleasure boats operate out of Ilfracombe Harbour offering short trips to view the stunning coast line.

Lundy Island - Lundy is a small island in the Bristol channel and can be reached by taking a 3 hour ferry trip on board the Balmoral or the Waverley.
